Make a Woodland Advent Calendar

It’s finally time to show you our advent calendar! This year we made paper pockets. We’ve been inspired by woodland animals, and all the characters come with printable templates. Just cut, fold and glue together.

You need our printable templates, there are templates with the animal and a santa, and an empty template. You will also need scissors, a pencil, small labels and a glue sticks. We also used a piece of wallpaper we got on our visits to Boråstapeter a couple of years ago. The wallpaper is called Falsterbo Birds. Our calendar is attached to a large piece of cardboard.

Start by printing the templates and cut them out. There are four animals and one santa in one of the templates. You can either print enough animals and santas to cover all of the days in the calendar, or, as we have did, use a different paper for the other pockets.

First, make a vertical fold across the half of template and fold the paper back out again. Then bring down the side tabs to the middle create and make a fold. Fold them back out again. Fold all four tabs.

The first pocket is done!

Insert the back piece between the tabs and glue. Attach a label and write in what day this particular pocket is to represent.

We did, as I said, the remaining pockets in a wallpaper we thought fit in well with the theme. Cut the template and fold the same way as the santa.

All animals are ready to be put up!

Last we paste the pockets on a large piece of cardboard. You could also hang them on a bulletin board, or why not tape them to the fridge!

Now fill all pockets with small surprises! Make sure to chose light things, the calendar is made of paper. Eraser, beads or perhaps Lego bricks can be a idea. What do you put in your calendars?
